Music

Incorporating music into the curriculum with everything else we have to do is difficult! However, music is SO important, especially for students like me who learn using music. I LOVE MUSIC!
Here are some music ideas for elementary teachers!

The Cup Game

Here's a video of the game, this woman breaks it down very well!
This is a game that we played in my music class. My teacher taught us how to play in little steps and eventually we understood how to play. When we got the hang of it, she played a slow song so we could practice going around the circle. We passed the cup to the person on our right. I'm sure you can guess where it is by looking at the video.

Then once we got the hang of it we did it to a medium speed song, then a fast song. The songs were as follows, with the links included:

“Art of Noise”

Deep Forest

Wes and Deep Forest (fast)

“Safety Dance” -  Men Without Hats

“China Grove” – The Doobie Brothers

There's also a great video of a trio doing an awesome rendition of this game:

I love this game, and I plan to do it with my campers this summer :) I do have to give credit where credit is due, so the credit for this lesson goes to my music teacher Kathy Wheeler.

Enjoy!

Celebrate Cinco de Mayo

maracas-for-cinco-de-mayo.html
This idea is so easy, and kids will love it! This involves taking those plastic Easter eggs and filling them with beans, rice, etc. Then, you just take two plastic spoons and put the egg in between, wrap them up with colored duct tape, and let the kids decorate them!

It's the best of both worlds because these are easy, fun, and CHEAP! This is so awesome, so I hope you can find a way to add this into classroom activities. It's fun for Cinco de Mayo, or any day you need a little music in your life!

Enjoy!
